| Biography
Hermann Martlreiter took calssical flute lessons before he studied at the Jazz School Munich with Joe Haider and Leszek Zadlo. Early performances include gigs with Hans Rettenbacher and Joe Haider. In the 80's, he joined the "Deutsch-Französisches Jazzensemble" led by Albert Mangelsdorff and J. F. Jenny-Clarke and played at the Jazz Festivals in Berlin, Paris and Lille. In Munich, he joined the Big Bands of Al Porcino and Harald Rüschenbaum, played at the Münchner Kammerspiele in Goethe's "Faust" (with his wife Beate Kittsteiner, Bill Elgart, Roger Jannotta and Tom van der Geld), which was also performed for two weeks in Tokyo. Additionally, he worked with musicians like Jim Pepper, Barbara Dennerlein, Charly Antolini and many others before he formed his first band "Airplay" with Peter Tuscher, Max Neissendorfer, Hans Rettenbacher and John Betsch. In the 90's, Hermann worked with actor Dieter Rupp, performing Hermann Hesse's "Siddharta" and Georg Büchner's "Lenz". He formed a new band with Geoff Goodman, g, Rocky Knauer, b, and John Betsch, dr. (CD "Live at Birdland Neuburg, 1994). Recently, he recorded with Felix Wahnschaffe, as, Ed Schuller, b, and John Betsch, and plays the music of Bill Evans with a project called "Time Remembered - the music of Bill Evans" (with Sava Medan, b, and Alex Sanguinetti, dr).
